Jet lag on the Riviera: what an IV drip can and cannot do after a long flight

You land at Nice, drive an hour along the coast, and the villa is beautiful. Your body, however, is still somewhere over the Atlantic. Long-haul travel is one of the most common reasons our clients book their first IV drip in Saint-Tropez, and it is worth understanding what actually happens to the body in a plane, what an infusion can reasonably address, and what it cannot.

What a long flight actually does

Cabin air is exceptionally dry, typically far drier than any desert, which increases water loss through breathing and skin over the course of a flight. Add limited movement, altered meal timing, coffee, a glass of wine at cruising altitude, and the result is a body that arrives with less water on board than it left with.

Then there is the clock. Crossing several time zones desynchronises your internal rhythm from local time. That is jet lag, and no infusion resets a circadian clock: only time, light exposure and sleep do that. Anyone promising otherwise is selling something we would not buy.

What an infusion is, and is not

An IV infusion delivers hydration, vitamins and minerals directly into the bloodstream, bypassing digestion. For someone arriving dehydrated after twelve hours in the air, rehydration is a straightforward, measurable benefit.

What it is not: a cure for jet lag, a substitute for sleep, or a treatment for anything at all. At State the infusion is a supervised moment of rest and rehydration, prescribed by a physician after a consultation, and nothing is promised beyond what that framework allows. The full protocol is described on our IV Drip Saint-Tropez page.

The arrival protocol our clients use

Day of arrival. Settle in, drink water, get outside. Daylight is the strongest signal your internal clock responds to, and an hour on the terrace does more for adaptation than any supplement.

Morning after. This is when most clients schedule their session. A consultation with our partner physician has usually taken place before or on arrival, the nurse comes to the villa, suite or yacht, and the infusion runs for about an hour while you look at the sea. It fits neatly before the first lunch of the holiday.

The following days. Consistency takes over: water, meals at local times, morning light, and the daily formulas that travel in your case.

Travelling east or west changes the strategy

Flying east, from New York or Los Angeles toward Europe, is the harder direction: you lose hours and your body resists an earlier bedtime. Morning light on arrival helps, evening screens do not.

Flying west, from Dubai or Singapore, is generally gentler: the day feels stretched rather than amputated. Late afternoon light and a normal local dinner time usually settle things within a day or two.

What travels with you between sessions

An infusion is a moment. A routine is what carries you through a season of movement. Three formulas of The Daily Range earn their place in a travel case.

Night Reset, because arrival nights are the ones that decide how the week goes. Magnesium contributes to normal psychological function, and melatonin contributes to the reduction of time taken to fall asleep.

Bright Boost, because vitamin C contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to the normal function of the immune system, and because air travel is not a gentle environment.

Calm Core, the quiet base: magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to the normal functioning of the nervous system.

Frequently asked questions

Can an IV drip cure jet lag?

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Jet lag is a circadian desynchronisation resolved by time, light and sleep. An infusion addresses hydration and provides a supervised hour of rest.

How soon after landing can I have a session?

Most clients prefer the morning after arrival, which leaves time for the consultation and for a full night in a bed that is not moving. Same-day sessions are possible when the medical steps are complete.

Can you come to my hotel suite?

Yes. We operate in villas, hotel suites, private residences and on board yachts across Saint-Tropez, Ramatuelle, Gassin, Grimaud and Sainte-Maxime. Yacht arrivals are covered in our article on IV drips on board.

Is it suitable for everyone?

No, and that is precisely why the consultation exists. Certain conditions, treatments and allergies make an infusion inappropriate, and the physician decides, not the client and not us.

Arriving well

The best Riviera weeks start with an unglamorous list: water, light, sleep at local hours, and a routine you keep. The infusion is one calm hour inside that list, medically framed, on a terrace you chose. Everything else is jet lag folklore.

IV therapy is a medical act, performed by licensed professionals on medical prescription. It is not a substitute for medical care, a varied diet or a healthy lifestyle. Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
